New Homeschool Law In California!

To say I am angry about this is an understatement! It has caused quite a ripple on the Mommies Board as well. California has passed a law making it illegal to homeschool unless the parents hold a teaching certificate! This is such a violation of parental rights!! To quote the news article:

"Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children," Justice H. Walter Croskey wrote in a Feb. 28 opinion for the 2nd District Court of Appeal.

Are you serious? You've got to be kidding me. So let's throw our kids back into the over crowded public schools, where they'll sit in the back of the class as they fall further and further behind because the teacher has to keep up with the smartest kid in the class. Sorry. I just hate that the Government is trying to raise our kids for us, because we're just too damn dumb to do it ourselves. It has already been proven that most homeschooled students achieve better test scores than those of public school students, and most colleges are more than willing to take in homeschoolers. Why? Because they like that the homeschoolers don't have a structured way of learning. They are more open minded. I was public schooled, it's fine for some, but it's not for everyone. Parents need to have the right to homeschool if they feel it's the right choice for their children.

And even if you don't homeschool...or don't believe in homeschooling... If you feel that these parents should have a choice, please sign this petition on the HSLDA website (Home School Legal Defense Association) so we can stop this now, before it becomes a Utah law as well!!!
