Adoption Day!

This morning we all went to court and had Bug's adoption finalized. It was very easy and the kids were VERY well behaved! Jeff, Bug and I all had to be sworn in. I had to testify against Richard, but since he wasn't there, it wasn't so bad. Basically we were just asked a bunch of questions. Finally the judge signed the papers and that was it! On our way out, we were handed a video tape of the whole adoption. We didn't even know they were filming it! After court, Mom and Dad took some official family pictures of us. Then Jeff, Mary, the kids and I all went out for brunch. So far it's been a wonderful day and we're all looking forward to the adoption party tonight!!!!

The Ghost Of The Bayou

This is the famous Ghost of the Bayou that is on display at Hogle Zoo. We went to go see it today. It's on loan until October. It is not albino but it has a genetic defect that makes all the pigment go out of the skin but not the eye. This alligator has blue eyes. It would not survive in the wild. There were originally 18 white alligators, all from the same nest but now only 10 are still alive. It cannot be in the sun because it's skin would burn. It was so interesting to see it and I'm sure we'll never see another one again. WOW!

Happy Birthday Sugar Bear!

Today was Jeff and Bear's birthday. My baby turned 4 years old! Wow I can hardly believe how fast he is growing. We had Bear's birthday party on Saturday and everyone had a lot of fun. It was really windy at his party but that didn't stop all the kids from playing in the water. Today we went to the zoo to see the white alligator. It was alot of fun and the weather was awesome. It wasn't too hot at all. We bought the kids each a new t-shirt that says "Ghost of the Bayou" on it and it has a picture of the white alligators blue eye. It seems unreal that 4 years ago my little bear was born. I feel like I've missed it. It was a little sad for me because I don't like watching the kids get older, I just wanted them to stay babies forever. I did pretty well until the kids' bed time when Bear came out and sang "Happy Birthday" to Daddy. That was just so cute, that it made me cry. LOL

Our New Fur-Baby...

Yesterday we adopted "Ash." She was the only surviving kitten of a feral mother living at Mom and Dad's house. At first we thought she was all black but now we've noticed she's a really dark gray color. We couldn't decide on a name but Jeff picked Ash. We think she is between 3 & 4 weeks old. Normally you shouldn't take kittens away before 6-8 weeks but with feral kittens you need to take them around 4 weeks if you want a chance to tame them. Ash is being bottle fed by me and she's doing really well with it. She got her first tooth today. I checked her mouth last night and I could see the tooth buds but no teeth. Today she had a top front tooth. When she purrs, her whole body vibrates. It's so cute. She loves to climb behind me and sleep against my back while I'm sitting on the couch. She started playing today too. She rolls over onto her side or back and grabs onto my finger with her paws. Then she puts her paw into her mouth and "sucks her thumb."
